Become a Family Child Care Provider Published Oct. 4, 2011 By Senior Airman Anne Gathua 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Do you love working with children and are looking for a job that gives you the flexibility of working at home? The Child Development Center is looking for you. "Family Child Care providers are energetic professionals who truly love and enjoy children," said Ms. Yolanda Thomas, Family Child Care Coordinator. "As an F.C.C. provider, you have the opportunity to stay at home with your own children, contribute to the family income, and operate your own business." Thomas added that FCC providers are secure in the knowledge that they are offering a valuable service to Air Force communities. "As a new parent, the provider can stay at home but also continue to work," said Thomas. "They have several choices and can tailor the level or care they provide with small mixed-aged groups that foster accelerated learning and social development in young children." To be an FCC provider you have to meet the following requirements: · You must be a spouse of an active duty or retired military member. You may also be the retired military member. · You must complete all forms and applications · You must complete Basic First Aid and CPR Courses · You must obtain a medical certificate · You must be 18 years of age. · You must be physically and mentally capable of providing care. · You must be able to speak, understand and write English. · You must attend orientation and training that is required for all providers. · You must obtain liability insurance coverage. · Your home must pass inspections in the areas of fire, safety, health, and FCC program guidelines and standards after training. · You may live on Goodfellow housing or become an affiliate if living off base.
