CFC to kick-off Sept. 8 Published Aug. 30, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Jessica Keith 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas-- -- Now in its 50th year, the Combined Federal Campaign, the world's largest annual workplace charity campaign, is scheduled to kick-off during the Wing Commander's Call, here, Sept. 8. CFC is one of two programs the Air Force supports each year; the other is the Air Force Assistance program, which is usually held in the spring. The AFAF specifically supports Air Force programs such as the Air Force Aid Society and the Gen. and Mrs. LeMay Foundation, while CFC supports thousands of local, national and international approved non-profit charity foundations. Some of the CFC charities include the Meals on Wheels Association of America, the Global Children's Foundation and the American Urological Association Foundation, Inc. Last year Goodfellow raised $210,508 exceeding the base goal of $167,518 by about 20 percent. This year's goal is to raise $168,150. "Goodfellow has a tremendous history of donating very generously through the CFC," said Col. Mark Damiano, 17th Training Wing Commander. "It is another way for our military, civilians and families support a variety of worthy causes." Donations can be made either as a one-time action or a monthly donation of as little as $5 per month using a payroll deduction form, which unit CFC representatives can provide. According to Brian Brown, the 17th Mission Support Group deputy and this year's organizer for base CFC events, CFC is a versatile campaign that gives contributors control of where their money will go. Mr. Brown said if a contributor decides to give $10 per month, that person can choose to have it all go to one organization or have specific amounts go to different organizations. Contributors have the option to leave their donations undesignated, so their funds will be given to various organizations on an as-needed basis, he added. This year, organizers have added a new incentive to donate. If a contributor gives $150 or more, they will receive a CFC 50th anniversary coin. "We want contributors to know their donations are appreciated," Mr. Brown said. "The coin is our way of saying thanks." The campaign will run until Oct. 31, and during this time most other fundraising events are prohibited.
