Headquarters Air Force Aid Society announced this summer its release of the AFAS Online Emergency Assistance Application, streamlining the application process between the applicant and AFAS representatives at each base.

Now, Air Force active-duty member, their spouse, retirees and widows with Internet access and an email address can apply for AFAS assistance using the AFAS Online Application. Register and complete the application at https://my.afas.org/memberportal/Login/Login.aspx.

Once the application is complete, bring it to the Airman and Family Readiness Center here in building 145. Clients should schedule an appointment for an AFAS representative to review the application with them to ensure all areas are complete.

Walk-in clients who are not registered with AFAS Online will be referred to the Discovery Resource Center in A&FRC to register and complete the online application. Paper copies of the Form 2 will still be accepted, but it's highly encouraged to use the online application.

Clients are asked to review the guidelines and procedures carefully. The reason for assistance must fall under regulation guidelines: basic living expenses-rent/mortgage, food, phone, utilities and gasoline; vehicle expenses-payment, repair and insurance; emergency travel; medical and dental expenses; and child care expenses. The maximum received is up to $500 and has to be repaid within 10 months. Clients can only receive two loans during their career.
