New dorm opens with ribbon cutting ceremony Published June 30, 2011 By 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- A new student dormitory for the 315th Training Squadron was officially opened here. Col. Mark Damiano, 17th Training Wing Commander, along with leadership from the 17th Training Group, 315th Training Squadron, and representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, cut the ribbon on the building. "This is not just a dorm, it is a huge quality of life improvement for our Airmen here." Colonel Damiano said. The three-story dormitory will house 400 Airmen inside of approximately 110,000 square feet of space. Ron Trepanier, 17th Civil Engineer Squadron Engineering Flight Chief, said that Airmen will be housed two to a room in the dorm with additional study and recreation areas throughout the building. "It gives our Airmen a place to rest, relax, and recharge themselves," he said. Mr. Trepanier also noted that the dorm's construction was in keeping with improving quality of life and meets the latest energy efficiency standards.
