Critical Days of Summer Safety Campaign Published June 3, 2011 By Sam Spooner 17th Training Wing Safety Office GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE,Texas -- We kicked off the "Critical Days of Summer" safety campaign here at Goodfellow June 3 with a combined Safety and Sports Day, and placed special emphasis on driving safety as well as applying risk management to both on- and off-duty activities. You may ask why we have the need for a summer safety campaign. Since Oct. 1, 1980, Air Education and Training Command has experienced 125 fatalities from the Memorial Day through Labor Day time frame. During the Critical Days of Summer 2010, Goodfellow had 124 total mishaps reported which resulted in three days of hospitalization, 81 days of quarters, and 711 restricted duty days. Our vision this year is to ensure all personnel: 1. Have an injury free summer 2. Minimize traffic mishaps 3. Have our second AETC fatality-free "Critical Days of Summer" campaign AETC's "Critical Days of Summer" safety campaign runs from May 27 through Sept. 5. During that time frame, we will cover a summer safety topic each week and will be working closely with your unit safety representatives to provide you with insight and educational materials to help make your summer the safest ever.
