Bronze Star awarded to TRSS member Published April 13, 2011 By 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Master Sgt. Jason Jordan, 17th Training Support Squadron, was awarded the Bronze Star April 8 for his service while deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2009-2010, Sergeant Jordan was part of the Army's Stryker Brigade Combat Team, a Provincial Reconstruction Team, serving as the communications NCOIC. He was responsible for communications equipment valued at more than $3 million, as well as ensuring communications capability for the team's location, and for every vehicle and member on the team. By keeping this equipment functional, the PRT was able to accomplish missions outside the wire and conduct civil military operations. He helped boost morale for other deployed servicemembers and government civilians at his location by keeping morale, welfare and recreation computers and phones operational. He also wired additional rooms for internet service, providing more people a link home. Sergeant Jordan said he never imagined he'd receive such an award for his deployment, but said it's always good to be recognized for what you do. "I only received this award because of the hard work the entire communications team put forth," he said. "Together, we accomplished a great deal for which I am proud." His supervisor at the 17th TRSS, Capt. Shannon Fraley, said he's not surprised Sergeant Jordan was awarded the Bronze star. For the past two years that he's worked with Sergeant Jordan, he knows that Sergeant Jordan someone he can always count on for outstanding contributions. "He doesn't understand the words 'can't' or 'mediocre,'" Capt. Fraley said. "He does everything to the highest standard and he's who I point to for Airmen of all ranks to emulate." The Bronze Star Medal is the ninth highest military award overall. It is awarded to those who distinguish themselves by heroic or meritorious achievement or service while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States, in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force, or while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party. President Theodore Roosevelt authorized the Bronze Star Medal by Executive Order 9419 dated Feb. 4, 1944. The executive order was amended by President John Kennedy, per Executive Order 11046 dated Aug. 24, 1962, to expand the authorization to include those serving with friendly forces.
