LOOK OUT: Upcoming construction changes foot, vehicle traffic Published Feb. 4, 2011 By Tech Sgt. James Fountain 17th Training Wing Safety GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- In the next few months, new construction will lead to significant changes to the base. Therefore, there will be some things to watch out for during the improvements. Everybody, drivers and pedestrians, will have to make adjustments based on the new construction zones. New dormitory, building 3135, at Apache Trail and Valiant Street Construction and transportation trucks are in the final phases of delivering equipment to this new dorm so be careful when travelling along Valiant Street past Apache Trail. New troopwalk alongside Valiant Street between Apache Trail and Flightline Avenue As part of the 400-person dorm project, construction workers are installing a troop walk along Valiant Street on both sides of Kearney Boulevard. With workers right off the edge of the roadway, drivers must slow down as they approach that intersection and travel along Valiant Street. Consolidated Learning Center The Consolidated Learning Center is being constructed between Burger King and Ft. Griffin Avenue. The road behind the commissary will be for commercial vehicle traffic only; pedestrians will be prohibited behind the commissary too. The CLC construction area will also close Kaydet Street west of Ft. Griffin Avenue. Once fencing is installed, the only entrance and exit from Burger King will be Kearney Boulevard. The Army and Air Force Exchange Service gas station/shoppette will still be accessible from Flightline Avenue and Kearney Boulevard. Post Office The Post Office, building 337, will be undergoing renovation. Due to limited parking in this area, pedestrian traffic will be increased along Ft. Griffin Avenue. In addition, there may be construction trucks waiting on the roadway to make turns into this area. Please be patient and understanding during this effort. Western Winds Dining Facility With the upcoming closure of Cressman Dining Facility for maintenance repairs, the foot traffic around Western Winds Dining Facility will increase. Along with the increased pedestrian traffic, the construction projects at the Post Office and CLC listed above will be occurring at the same time. As always, be courteous and patient and watch out for each other while traveling.
