Give CES a brake – SLOW DOWN

On my way home last week, I noticed several members from the 17th Civil Engineer Squadron working on the pop-up barrier near the North Gate exit.

I stopped to see how things were going and ask why there was a worker posted close to the cone that separated the work area from the moving traffic lane. The supervisor told me the worker was in close proximity because vehicles drive by at high rates of speed and he slowed cars down by standing up and waving at them to slow down. He also told me that they have witnessed base personnel, military and civilian, give dirty looks, hand gestures and yell at the workers, then speed up when approaching the zone. This is unacceptable behavior.

Slowing down to 5-10 mph when passing these workers allows them to complete their duties in a safe manner without fear of being struck by a vehicle.

He also told me about a person from base who brought them ice cream while working and told them thanks. I think we all owe them thanks for doing the tough jobs that allow us to come to work safely and productively each day.
