This year's 101 Critical Days of Summer have come and gone with success.

During the 101 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day, there's usually an increase in mishaps, including fatalities, nationally; however, check out these record-breaking quick facts:
  • During this year's Critical Days of Summer, fatalities were down Air Force-wide.
  • Air Education and Training Command went the entire 101 days without any fatalities and as of Tuesday, 297 days since the last one. This is the first-ever in AETC recorded history.
  • AETC has almost made it a whole year without a motorcycle fatality.
These are phenomenal and historical statistics, but let's not let our guard down. Safety is a 24/7 culture, mindset and attitude. The loss of one Airman is one too many.

Privately-owned vehicle mishaps continue to be a problem area for fatalities while sports-related mishaps and industrial on duty mishaps continue to lead the way for less severe injuries on and off duty. We should continue to emphasize these problem areas. Supervisors need to lead the way in taking a personal and proactive approach to getting the message across to our Airmen, Sailors, Marines and Soldiers.
