Team Goodfellow joined a multitude of Air Force bases and Department of Defense organizations in the social media world with the recent launch of its Facebook page.

Announcements, articles, photos and videos placed on the base's official website, www.Goodfellow.af.mil, will be fed onto the Facebook site allowing another avenue for Goodfellow and the community to stay informed of what's going on around the wing. Members must be logged into Facebook to access the profile.

Recognizing the capabilities of social media, DOD officials changed the policy in February to allow social media access. Air Education and Training Command officials followed suit in May and authorized access to more than 80 social media sites on government computers.

"Social networking sites and internet-based capabilities open up a new avenue to improve our processes and continue to better educate and train the best Airmen in the world," said Gen. Stephen Lorenz, AETC commander, in a memorandum to all AETC personnel April 28.

Public Affairs reminds all users that all postings must remain professional, regardless of whose profile it's posted on. This applies to postings on all social media outlets, too. Members will be held accountable for everything they post.
Public Affairs, in building 430, can assist individuals who are unsure if what they want to post is allowed. Units interested in creating a profile, and those that already have, should contact Public Affairs at 325-654-3880 for guidance.

The following tips are provided for users accessing social media sites:

  • Operations Security should always be a consideration when engaged in social media. There are always consequences to what is written.
  • Review appropriate Air Force instructions and guidance thoroughly prior to posting content on social media sites.
  • Users have the sole responsibility for what they post.
  • Users must not post any defamatory, libelous, vulgar, obscene, abusive, profane, threatening, hateful, offensive or illegal information or material.
  • Users must not post classified or sensitive information. This includes pictures of secured facilities.
  • Users must not post any information that would infringe upon the proprietary, privacy or personal rights of others.
  • Airmen discussing issues related to their career field or personal experiences is acceptable, but they should not discuss areas of expertise of which they have no first-hand knowledge.
