Fireworks, cookouts, family and friends. Fourth of July is just around the corner and Outdoor Recreation is holding its celebration at the Goodfellow Rec Camp on Lake Nasworthy for all Goodfellow personnel and their family.

This year's festivity will be packed with events for everyone. Battle of the bands, games, crafts, eating contests and boat rides start at 9 a.m. Food will also be available. Fireworks can be seen from the Rec Camp and start at 9:30 p.m.

"We have the best real estate on the lake to see the fireworks," said Kelley Kazura, Outdoor Recreation director. "Come early and bring your picnic baskets."

In addition to picnic baskets, attendees can also bring coolers; however, glass containers cannot be brought onto the Rec Camp.

Camp sites and equipment rentals will be available. The pool will be open with free admission, but only those with an ID card - military or Department of Defense civilian - are allowed entry. Cars coming through the Rec Camp gate must also have at least one ID cardholder in the vehicle to be allowed through.

Chaplain (Capt.) Kip Averett, 17th Training Wing Chapel, will lead a Protestant Praise and Worship service at the camp starting at 10 a.m. in the large pavilion.

Last year, more than 5,000 people attended the activities at the Rec Camp with parking at capacity by 7 p.m. This year, staff encourages people to get there early to make sure they get a parking space.
