Team building program strengthens post deployment relationships Published June 1, 2010 By Joy Hopper Airman and Family Readiness Center chief GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Multiple deployments have become a way of life for today's military and each deployment poses its own challenges. Whether at home or at work, team dynamics often change after a deployment. To help members strengthen their relationships, the Airman and Family Readiness Center is offering multiple one-day team initiative programs June 10-13 for single service members and those with families. Family members age 9 and older are encouraged to attend the program with the sponsor. The Team Craft initiative programs are part of the Year of the Air Force Family. All service members stationed here who have returned from deployment since March 2009 are eligible to attend. The programs are from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. with lunch provided. The Team Initiative Training for Single Service Members is June 10 and 11, and the Team Initiative Training for members with families is June 12 and 13. Team Craft presenters offer education in organization, team and personal development with activities tailored to address the challenges experienced with the military lifestyle. Activities are designed to enhance communication skills, build trust and encourage problem solving. They will also address the issues of reintergration following deployment. Scenarios will offer an entertaining way to promote team problem solving and interpersonal skills. Team activities will involve minimal physical effort or emotional stress and facilitators will observe each team's process and offer advice as appropriate. Discussions will follow each activity to offer new insight on team effectiveness and action planning at the end of the program will tie the observations together into a set of new team practices.
