311th TRS earns CFC award

Putting others first is what Airmen from the 311th Training Squadron proved they could do well as they raised more than $32,000 during the 2009 Combined Federal Campaign, winning the "Best Large Department of Defense Organization Award."

Airmen from the 311th TRS raised the most money in the Presidio of Monterey this year. Closely following was the 314th Training Squadron with more than $28,000 putting the 517th TRG's total contribution at $61,923, accounting for 25 percent of the Defense Language Institute' s campaign total contributions; the highest among the joint services.

"It is truly remarkable to see our young Airmen selflessly share what they can to contribute to CFC," said Col. William "Terry" Bare, 517th Training Group commander.

Educating the Airmen about the CFC is what helped them exceed this year's goal, said Tech. Sgt. Ronnie Shiverdecker, 311th TRS military training leader.

"You have to be knowledgeable about CFC and take the time to explain to the (non prior service) Airmen what CFC is, the benefits we reap from CFC and what an outstanding opportunity it is to contribute to a great cause," he said.

Contributions made to the CFC go to eligible non-profit organizations around the world that provide health and human service benefits.
