Presidio of Monterey Airmen win Quarterly Commander’s Cup Published May 18, 2010 By Tech. Sgt. Damian A. Davies 314th Training Squadron PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- The 517th Training Wing's male and female run teams from the Presidio of Monterey took first and second place, beating out the joint service teams during a quarterly joint service Commander's Cup May 5. The run is not only a test of their fitness, it's also team building event. The joint service Commander's Cup requires teams to run around a track in formation for eight laps with a guide-on. The only person allowed to run beside the team is the team captain. In the past, teams have been disqualified for formation violations. For example, if a runner falls too far behind the formation, the team is disqualified. The team's overall score is determined by combining the times of the last team member that crosses the finish in the last lap. The female run team is made up of 10 airmen from the 311th Training Squadron and the 314th Training Squadron. The male run team is made up of 12 Airmen from the 311th TRS and the 314th TRS. Members within these two teams compete against each other to participate in the quarterly challenge. Only seven for each team are chosen. The event is not just about being a good runner though. To be on the team, these Airmen must have passing grades with no significant disciplinary issues and complete a physical training evaluation.
