The 101 Critical Days of Summer Campaign begins with the Wing's Safety Day events May 28 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the 312th Training Squadron High Bay.

There will be four showings of "Street Smart" throughout the day at the high bay. The "Street Smart" program provides real-life experiences of firefighter paramedics explaining the trauma the human body endures from vehicle accidents. Stay Alive From Education, or S.A.F.E., presenters of "Street Smart" focus on making drivers aware of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, not wearing seatbelts, and the trauma associated with an accident.

Each squadron and unit will have an hour to watch the presentation and another hour to move through the safety booths. The booths will be set up and ran by volunteers from the Texas Highway Patrol, the Texas Department of Transportation and the San Angelo Weather Service. There will also be a high voltage electrical arcing demonstration from Concho Valley Electric Coop.

This year's Safety Day event will cover many facets of safety. Personnel can even bring their motorcycle for an inspection. There will be information on the latest boats at the recreation camp and how to become a certified emergency response technician. Other safety topics being addressed are safety issues with child safety seats, drugs and youth, and texting and impairment goggles while driving. Attendees can even participate in putting out a fire.

While not in attendance during their scheduled Safety Day event time at the 312th TRS High Bay, units will be responsible for executing safety stand down discussions on suicide awareness, motor vehicle mishaps and the importance of the Wingman Concept.
