April 7, the Navy/Marines intramural basketball team was mired in sixth place following a 59-54 defeat at the hands of 17th Mission Support Group Junkyard Dawgs. But the team went on a tear last week, winning all three of its games to catapult all the way to the top of the intramural league standings.

Navy/Marines kicked off their impressive week on April 12 by rallying from a 12-point halftime deficit to knock off the 17th Medical Group Cobras 50-47. Corey Pasley and Clarence May led the Cobras in scoring with 17 and 14 points respectively.

The combined Navy/Marine team continued its momentum by downing the 1st Responders 45-31 the next day. Robert Berry had nine points in the game for 1st Responders.

The team concluded its rampage by holding off the much-improved 316th Training Squadron Beta Sharks 49-32, April 14. Brandon Bryant led the Beta Sharks with seven points.

The trio of victories gave Navy/Marines a 5-1 season record and a half-game lead over the Junkyard Dawgs and Army, who are both 4-1 and tied for second place.

The Junkyard Dawgs scored 34 points in the second half to secure a 56-41 victory over the 1st Responders, April 12. Andre Golden dropped in 16 points and Clifton Gathers added 13 more for 17th Mission Support Group, while Michael Givan led the 1st Responders with 14 points.

Golden fired in 19 points the next day to pace the Junkyard Dawgs to a 78-28 rout of the Beta Sharks.

Army kept pace with the Junkyard Dawgs with a 56-50 overtime win over the 316 TRS Sharks April 14. The Sharks swam out to an 18-point first half lead, but the soldiers mobilized their offense into high gear in second half to tie game. The Sharks could only muster two points in overtime, while the Army team sank six of 10 free throws to earn the win.

Also last week, Teriss Price scored 21 points and Rashad Aldridge chipped in 15 more as the 17th Communications Squadron Bats snapped a two-game losing streak and cruised to a 69-31 win over the 17th Training Support Squadron Tigers. Kenneth Hugdahl had 11 points, and Chadwick McGuire and Walter Hull added 10 each for the 1-4 Tigers.

The 17th Medical Group Cobras rebounded from their loss to the Navy/Marines by squeaking past the 315th Training Squadron Rattlers, 47-46, April 13. Pasley had 19 points for the Cobras while May tallied 14 more. Johnnie Mallott led the Rattlers with nine points. Both teams are 3-2.

April 15's games were cancelled due to water leaking from the roof of Mathis Fitness Center.
