BOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNTTTTTTTTTTT!

With that blast, emanating from the base fire truck, scores of children from the Goodfellow community bolted in all directions across the Child Development Center lawn, April 3. Their eyes sharply focused on the ground as they scrambled for their oval-shaped treasures - the thousands of eggs strewn all over the grounds.

Swooping in like hawks on the bright, sunny afternoon, their hands snapped up the colored plastic eggs filled with candy. As their baskets became loaded down with the loot, their smiles grew broader.

Bringing smiles to these children was the whole idea, according to Cindy Cummings, the director of the CDC, which hosted the annual Base-Wide Egg Hunt.

"The free event brought together families for an afternoon of egg hunting in the spring sunshine," Ms. Cummings said. "Children up to 12 years old participated in the festivities with thousands of eggs collected. Some of the eggs had gift tickets inside, that children could redeem for the more than 80 prizes awarded at the event."

Tech. Sgt. Gary Maldonado, 17th Communications Squadron, his wife Melinda and children Elizabeth and David, who attended the event, said it was wonderful and they enjoyed it.

Ms. Cummings said the CDC would not have been able to host the Egg Hunt without the strong support of local volunteers.

"More than 20 generous individuals donated their time and efforts to the event, resulting in a well-organized and flawlessly executed hunt, she added. "We thank them graciously for their assistance."
