Cobras draw first blood as intramural basketball gets under way

GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --  
The 17th Medical Group Cobras are off to a fast start after winning their first two games of the intramural basketball season last week.

In all, 10 teams are participating in the league, which began March 31.

Clarence May poured in 19 points and Corey Pasley added 18 more as the Cobras rallied in the second half to beat the 17th Communication Squadron Bats 58-49 on opening day. Drew Colen and Rashad Aldridge led the Bats in scoring with 27 and 10 points respectively.

May and Pasley came up big in their next game by combining for 45 points as the Cobras downed the 17th Mission Support Group Junkyard Dawgs 58-50 April 1.

The Junkyard Dawgs won their opening game March 31 by routing the 17th Training Support Squadron Tigers 57-27. Alicia Phelps led 17 MSG with 15 points while teammates Joshua Corbett, Cliffton Gathers and Michael Schrama all had 10 points each.

In the other opening day game, Mitch Ruark scored 16 points to help the 315th Training Squadron Rattlers handcuff the 1st Responders 59-30. Reggie Wilder had 11 points for the 1st Responders.

The Navy/Marine team also got into the win column virtue of a 52-51 overtime thriller over Army, April 1.

The week's final contest wasn't nearly as close as the 316th Training Squadron Sharks showed no mercy to the same species, beating 316 TRS Beta Sharks 85-33. Sharks' Christopher Fehlman led all scorers with 21 points.
