The Goodfellow Air Force Base varsity basketball team, the Goodfellow Hawks, will host a series of home games this weekend, March 20 and 21 and the weekend of March 27 and 28, at the Mathis Fitness Center on base. Today they face Dyess AFB Bombers at 8 p.m., Fort Sam Houston Rangers Saturday, March 20, 3 p.m. and Sunday, March 21, noon. The action carries on next weekend when they face Randolph AFB at 3 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday.

The Hawks traveled to Sheppard AFB, with only seven players, to face the Sheppard Senators for two games on March 13 and 14.  After leading at halftime 44-40, in the March 13 game, the Hawk's lack of players caught up with them and couldn't fight off the comeback from the Senators, losing the game 88-79. The March 14 match up proved to be even tougher with the Hawks struggling to get off any shots, falling 87-68. The leading scores were Michael Thompson with 33 on Saturday and Corey Pasley with 20 on Sunday.

The small but scrappy Hawks are ranked third in their division. Their current record is 11-8 and placed 5th out of 12 teams in the annual Joe B. Hall Tournament held at Lackland AFB.

The team is at full strength, and the team coach, Jamal Mikell, said he thinks the team has a very good chance of winning the championship this year. "Come out and support the Goodfellow Hawks," he said. "The team has games this weekend and next weekend on base so what better place than to watch your team but at home."
