As a result of a recent traffic safety study in early January, 17th Training Wing/Safety and 17th Civil Engineering Squadron are partnering to make improvements in both traffic and pedestrian safety here at Goodfellow.

Based on current standards, many traffic signs on base will be upgraded to enhance visibility and update existing verbiage. We are also planning to make numerous enhancements to crosswalks around base through the use of reflective inserts and retro-reflective crosswalk signs. A project to install pedestrian-activated lighted crosswalks along Kearney Boulevard is currently being developed. Also, several crosswalks on base will be included in a lighting project to improve visibility. These initiatives in concert with reflective belt/vest use will improve pedestrian safety.

A specific change to traffic flow will occur at the intersection of Vance Street East and Apache Trail as it will be converted to a four-way stop. Also, a stop sign will be replacing the yield sign at the end of West Canberra Street and Fort Lancaster Avenue.

As always, we ask both drivers and pedestrians to proceed with caution when traversing the base. Although pedestrians have the right of way, we ask all personnel to take the time to stop, look both ways, and ensure driver eye contact before proceeding into crosswalks.
