Voting Kick-off Published Jan. 26, 2010 By Master Sgt. Kaleah Hodges 17th Medical Operations Squadron GOODFELLOW AFB, Texas -- Elections to the United States Senate will be held Nov. 2. Each State will hold a special primary election prior to this date. The voting cut-off dates will vary by state, so if you want to make sure your vote counts, now is the time to get started. Service members and overseas voters should not assume they will automatically receive ballots for the 2010 elections. Previously, voters would receive absentee ballots for up to two cycles following their request. New laws require voters to submit federal postcard applications for absentee ballots on a yearly basis. Voters who have applied for a ballot but do not receive them at least a month before the election, should use the federal write-in absentee ballot instead. These forms and more are available either online or may be obtained from your Voting Assistance Officer. VAOs will provide you with accurate non-partisan voting information and assistance. They are here to ensure that you understand your voting rights, how to register and how to vote absentee. Goodfellow's VAOs are Capt. Pedro Colon at 654-3129, or myself at 654-3101. You can also contact your group VAO or visit the Federal Voting Assistance Program web page at www.fvap.gov for more information.
