Goodfellow Airman STEP promoted Published Jan. 5, 2010 By Robert D. Martinez 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AFB, Texas -- Promoted on-the-spot. Staff Sergeant Jonathan L. Session was promoted to technical sergeant on Dec. 18, by way of the Stripes for Exceptional Performers or STEP promotion. Each year, the Air Force releases a limited number (usually less than 200, Air Force-wide), slots for a STEP promotion. The slots are distributed to the various major commands, who then distribute them to the wings. Wing commanders use these allocations to promote outstanding individuals to the next grade from staff sergeant to master sergeant. The unexpected promotion was presented by Col. Thomas Geary, 17th Training Wing commander and Col. Colonel Anthony Lombardo, 17th Training Group commander joined by command Chief Master Sgt. Frederick Ricker, in front of an audience of Sgt. Session's students waiting to depart for the holidays. The audience also included his wife Shevina and 20 month old son Nicholas. They have two other children Jared and Janae. Sgt. Sessions was born and raised in Nacogdoches, Texas. He entered the Air Force in September 1996. His primary job is an electrical systems craftsman, but he volunteered for special duty and is now doing a tour here at Goodfellow as a Military Training Leader. Sgt. Sessions other assignments were to Mountain Home AFB, Idaho; Incirlik AB, Turkey and Minot AFB, N.D. Some of his hobbies are playing sports and spending quality time with his family.
