Year of the Air Force Family Published Dec. 15, 2009 By Joy Hopper 17th Force Support Squadron GOODFELLOW AFB, Texas -- The Secretary and the Chief of Staff of the Air Force named July 2009-July 2010, Year of the Air Force Family. For Goodfellow families, it means that we will celebrate all military families--Air Force, Army, Marine Corps and Navy. The definition of "family" includes all DOD card holders: single military members, civilians, retirees and families. Throughout the year, we will offer programs that highlight the needs of both single members and families. On Tuesday, the Airman and Family Readiness Center hosted a holiday open house as a part of the Year of the Air Force Family celebrations. Members of the Goodfellow community were invited to tour the facility, learn about resources the center offers, act as judges for a holiday door decorating contest and enjoy refreshments with the staff. Goodfellow agencies have planned some great activities for the coming year for both single military members and families. The fitness center will kick the new year off with three exciting events: an aerobathon on Jan. 13 at 4:30 p.m., Around the World in 90 days from Jan. 1 - March 31, and Run/Walk for Gold which runs for the entire year. Participants in Around the World in 90 days can log miles on their choice of equipment including elliptical, treadmill and bike. As they work their way to different countries, they will earn incentive awards. Participants in Run/Walk for Gold will also earn incentives as they progress. If you want to take full advantage of the special events and activities offered during this year, log onto www.MyAirForceLife.com. The website has information about Air Force-wide competitions for short story, video, original song and photography categories. If you decide to share your insights of military life on the website, your name is automatically put into a weekly drawing for great prizes like iPod Nanos, ITunes cards and Army Air Force Exchange Services theater passes. The website is a one-stop shop for Year of the Air Force Family information and includes a listing of events here and at other bases. Your Goodfellow team has planned many exciting events for the Year of the Air Force, but we want your input. Let us know what types of activities you would like to see offered and which activities you would like to see repeated.
