Get ready for Exodus 2009 Published Dec. 1, 2009 By 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AFB, Texas -- Exodus, the Air Education and Training Command holiday stand-down period for training has been in existence for almost 20 years, said Ginger Moore, 17th Force Support Squadron, community services flight chief. This year's Exodus is scheduled to begin the evening of Dec. 18 and run through Jan. 2, 2010. "We hold this program to ensure that the students make it home and return safely from the holidays," said Ms. Moore. Much work has gone into the planning for this year's event and students will have plenty to do while waiting for their buses to depart for airports. Check in for Exodus starts at 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Dec. 18 at the Carswell Field House. While buses will not depart for the Dallas, San Antonio and Midland airports until later, students are encouraged to check their luggage in early and enjoy their free time prior to departure. There will be a cook-out at the Crossroads and complimentary food at the Event Center. The library, Base Exchange, bowling center and Burger King will also be open for patrons. There will be a free movie at the theater, 6 p.m. "In the past, over 600 students have participated in this program," Ms. Moore said. All students using the airport shuttle service should sign up by Dec. 15. The Dallas buses are scheduled to depart at 8:30 p.m., the San Antonio buses at 9:30 p.m. and the Midland buses will leave the base at 10 p.m. On the return day, Jan. 2, 2010, buses will begin departure at 12 p.m. and will leave the airports when full. The last bus will leave at 5 p.m. and military training leaders will be at the airports to assist travelers. Most establishments will remain open for the students remaining on base but will have reduced hours. For more information or to purchase a bus ticket, contact the Event Center at 654-3247 or 654-5249.
