Goodfellow's 344th Military Intelligence Battalion is planning to build a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility which will be located at the Forward Operating Base Sentinel. The projected date for completion is May 2010. The 344 MI BN will initiate intelligence training at the FOB Sentinel SCIF during June 2010. The new building will establish a permanent site that will enhance technical and tactical training for intelligence analysts, said Maj. Brian Cunningham, 344 MI BN, Executive Officer.

The SCIF will provide training support in a replicated combat environment. The replicated combat environment is meant to be similar to that of Afghanistan and Iraq. Soldiers also conduct warrior tasks and battle drills training at FOB Sentinel. The plans for this new facility will integrate tactical and technical training that will improve combat training for Soldiers, the major added.

"Once the facility is operational, the 344 MI BN can consolidate technical and tactical training at FOB Sentinel. Technical training is normally at one location on Goodfellow, while combat training is at FOB Sentinel," said Maj. Cunningham. "Consolidating all combat training at FOB Sentinel for the 344 MI BN's field training exercises, will provide realistic, effective, and efficient training in a simulated environment," he added.
