The 17th Medical Group recently received 1,060 doses of H1N1vaccine which are allocated almost exclusively for our non-military beneficiaries. Our target populations for this initial shipment are as follows: pregnant women (with a note from provider), all children 24-59 months, high-risk (those with certain medical conditions) children 5-18 years old, and DOD health care workers who serve these populations. We will continue to vaccinate on a priority basis mandated by the State and DOD as more vaccine becomes available.

Immunization is the best primary prevention for seasonal and H1N1 influenza. Effective secondary prevention measures to reduce influenza-like-illness include: cover your cough with a tissue or sneeze into the crook of your arm, wash your hands often with soap and water, (especially after you cough or sneeze) and use alcohol-based hand cleaners when soap and water are not available. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth and try to avoid close contact with sick people through social distancing. Unless absolutely necessary do not go to work or school if you are sick. If you have any questions, please contact the Public Health office at 654-5465.
