The 17th Medical Group held the annual Goodfellow Retirees Appreciation Day and Health Fair Saturday at the Goodfellow Clinic. More than 150 retirees from all services and their spouses spent the morning learning about military retiree health benefits, receiving updates on their personal health and learning how to improve and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

"This was a tremendous event. The primary focus was to show our appreciation for their service to our country," said Col. James Forrest, 17 MDG commander. "I am proud and thankful to all who put the time and effort into making this day a success."

The retirees received their annual flu shots, tetanus and pneumonia immunizations and were able to speak to medical providers about the health issues they had. Lots of health related information was provided, including cancer prevention, nutrition and exercise, physical therapy and stress management.

"I have been participating in this awesome program for the last five years," said Ms. Ricky Zuniga, Tricare Beneficiary Service representative. "It's a one stop shop that is very informative. The event was well planned out and the turnout was great."

Retired Air Force Master Sgt. Felix Lisewky said he was grateful to servicemembers for giving up their Saturday to put up the event in their honor.

"The event was very informative and the people were courteous and helpful," he added.

Healthy breakfast tacos and coffee were served throughout the morning.

"The Health Fair was a great success because we were able to provide vital health information to Military Retirees," said Lesa Parry, 17 MDG health care integrator, "The information will help them better their daily lives and improve their overall health."
