In their first season appearance in the San Angelo Recreation Open League championship tournament, the Goodfellow Hawks were not as successful as they had hoped, losing 15 to 12.

The Hawks won the toss and in their first possession methodically moved the ball down the field. The Hawks took an early 6 point lead when Todd Hadley passed to Brain Stansberry in the end zone. The Hawks' point after attempt failed. It didn't take long for Texas Fight to tie the score.

Texas Fight took the ball on their twenty and in two plays scored on the Hawks to tie the game. Texas Fight converted the point after and took the lead 7 to 6.

In the next two possessions both teams traded punts. The Hawks had two more opportunities to score before the half but failed to capitalize once when they had a first and twenty inside the Texas Fight and turned the ball over on downs. Their second opportunity came when Michael Schrama intercepted the ball and ran the ball into the end zone only to be called down by contact on the ten yard line. The Hawks again failed to score on four downs.

In the second half, the Hawks first score came when Cliffton Gathers intercepted a Texas Fight pass and ran it in for a touchdown. The Hawks point after attempt was intercepted by Texas Fight defender in the end zone and ran back 80 yards for a Texas Fight score. The Hawks still managed to maintain a 12 to 8 lead.

The Texas Fight put a good drive together in their next possession and scored a touchdown and converted the extra point to make it 15 to 12. In the Hawks next possession they again managed to move the ball inside the Fights' twenty but failed to score on a 4th and goal. The Hawks were given a final opportunity to win the game when Cliffton Gathers intercepted a Fights' pass. The Hawks moved the ball inside the Fights' 20 yard line but could not move the ball into the end zone and came up empty and lost the game.
