Wing Commander holds first wing wide CC Call

Colonel Tom Geary, 17th Training Wing commander hosted a series of wing-wide commander's calls Nov. 5. He began with the presentation of several noteworthy awards. The recipients included Gerard Andrews, 316th Training Squadron, as the 2008 Air Education and Training Command Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance Civilian of the Year and Senior Master Sgt, Sarah Wagnor, 17th Training Support Squadron, the 2008 AETC Reserve ISR Senior Non-commissioned Officer of the Year.

The 315th Training Squadron was recognized as the 2008 AETC ISR Unit of the Year. In addition, Osvaldo Perez Jr. and Terry Powell both from the 17th Logistics Readiness Squadron received awards for 30-years of civil service.

Following the awards , Col. Geary talked about the 17th Training Wing's new mission statement: "Train world-class Firefighting and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance warriors." He stated that the mission was revamped to "better reflect the Air Force's emphasis on full-spectrum ISR." Next he spoke about the vision for the wing, "Be the Air Force standard for training excellence by enhancing training across air, space and cyberspace domains and providing the best facilities and services for our work force and families," the wing's role in achieving AETC's vision of "Deliver unrivaled Air, Space and Cyberspace education and training." He stated, "Executing our mission and realizing our vision requires the concerted effort of all members of Team Goodfellow."

Col. Geary also laid out his expectations for the wing regarding the responsible consumption of alcohol. He cited 58 alcohol-related incidents in 2009 for underage drinking, incidents of providing alcohol to minors, DUIs and other offenses. He outlined the negative effects alcohol has on an individual's public behavior, duty performance, and overall health, maintaining that the 17 TRW will adhere to a zero tolerance policy regarding alcohol abuse.

Other topics covered during the commander's calls included the Air Force's new fitness standards, standards and expectations, suicide prevention, and the upcoming Nov. 21 Community Appreciation Day.
