The Hawks and Smokin Ace's finished the regular season with identical records and played a single elimination game to determine the 4th seed in the San Angelo Recreation Open League Flag Football Championship single elimination tournament.
In their previous meeting the Hawks managed to squeeze a victory in overtime.
In the first half both teams had equal opportunities to score. The Smokin Ace's squandered their opportunity to score on a first and goal when Deion Campbell intercepted the Ace's pass in the end zone. The Hawks managed to put a good drive together but failed to capitalize inside the red zone on four downs and the half ended in a scoreless tie.
In the first possession of the second half the Ace's managed to get in the red zone but a stubborn Hawk's defense kept the Ace's from scoring. The Hawks took over on downs and managed to gain a first down but on the ensuing play, Hawk's quarterback Dorn Gilstrap threw an interception and gave the Ace's a short field to work with. The Ace's took advantage of the short field and scored on the third play to make it 6 to 0 with the point after attempt failing.
The Hawks took over on their 20 yard line and marched down the field. On a 2nd and goal, Gilstrap hit Tim Harris on a short pass. Harris made some nifty moves and eluted two defenders making it into the end zone and tied the game at 6 to 6. The Hawks took a one point lead when Gilstrap passed to Jamie Burdett on the point after attempt.
The Ace's had a final opportunity to drive down the field and score but the Hawk's defense forced a four and out to end the game. The Hawk's will now play the number one seed New Era, time and date to be determined.
