Hawks win in overtime, base basketball team opens with win Published Nov. 3, 2009 By Johnny J. Bustos 17th Force Support Squadron GOODFELLOW AFB, Texas -- The Goodfellow Hawks took an early twelve point lead when they scored on their first two possessions. In the first drive the Hawks took the ball on their own twenty and marched down the field. The Hawks first score of the afternoon came on a second and goal from the seventeen yard line when Todd Hadley rolled to the right and fired towards the end zone. Chance Borgeson stood in the end zone, leaped high and over Hustlas defenders making a great catch for 6 points. The extra point failed. The Hustlas offensive unit could not move the ball in their first possession and had to punt to the Hawks. The Hawks moved the ball on a time consuming drive down to the 2 yard line, where they faced 4th and 2. After some scrambling, Hadley managed to find Brian Stansbury just inside the goal for a score and the Hawks went up by twelve after the extra point failed. The Hustlas got the ball and drove down the field on the last play of the half and scored to make it 12-6 at half time. In the first possession of the 2nd half, the Hustlas drove down to tie the game at 12 to 12. The point after attempt failed after the Hawks' Sharad White sacked the quarterback on the try. The Hawks had the opportunity to win the game in regulation when Joey Sanders intercepted a Hustlas pass on the Hawks 19 yard line. The Hawks managed to move the ball to the Hustlas' 2 yard line but failed to connect on a 4th and goal, sending the game into overtime. In overtime the Hawks defense kept the Hustlas to a positive 13 yards and four downs. In their possession, the Hawks scored from 33 yards out when Todd Hadleys' last second pitch and run to Brian Stansbury scored. The Goodfellow Hawks improve their record to 3 and 3 and will play their next game on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Goodfellow Varsity Basketball team opens with SMAC win The Goodfellow Hawks Varsity Basketball opened their Southwest Military Athletic Conference season when they traveled this weekend to San Antonio to face Brooks AFB in a two game series. In the first game, the Hawks came from behind in the second half on a great defensive effort by Andre Golden. The Hawks defeated Brooks 53 to 39. Top scorers for the Hawks were Corey Pasley with 12 points and Andre Golden with 10. In Sunday's game, the Hawks took an early lead and never looked back as they defeated Brooks 91 to 71. Corey Pasley led the Hawks with 15 points and Andre Golden, Tim Harris and Michael Gavan contributed 13 point each. The Hawks will entertain Lackland AFB this weekend with games scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday on Goodfellow at the Mathis Fitness Center.
