Several students joined together on Oct. 29 to celebrate the "Children's Fall Festival." The Goodfellow AFB Student Age Program has faithfully held this anticipated event for the past seven years. "The fall festival provides an important way for the kids to be involved as well as just having a good time," said Brian Stansbury, a group leader with the student age program.
The Student Age Program runs an innovative learning system for the kids during the fall festival. First, the games are collectively chosen by the kids. Then they choose the supplies necessary. Finally, after the staff has set up, the older kids get to guide and teach the younger kids each game. Impressively, each year this provides the older kids a way to practice responsibility in a safe and fun way, while at the same rate, the younger kids have someone to learn from and look up to.
"My favorite part of the Fall Festival is to see the smiles and frosting on all the kids faces" commented Annie Killgore, a student. "I look forward to doughnuts on a string; it's going to be awesome!"
