“Red Team” Visit: Security is everyone’s duty Published Nov. 3, 2009 By Master Sgt. Anthony Fleming 17th Security Forces Squadron GOODFELLOW AFB, Texas -- In an effort to maintain a heightened sense of security as well as test security, HQ AETC will dispatch a vulnerability exploitation team, Red Team, to Goodfellow Air Force Base in coming months. In recent years the United States has been witness to a myriad of attacks ranging from terrorist attacks on key landmarks and economic structures to cyber attacks designed to infiltrate and exploit data. Today, more than ever, it is important for all members of the community to be security conscious and to practice good operations security (OPSEC). Our adversaries are looking to exploit vulnerabilities, direct and indirect, surrounding our operations. It's important to take steps to reduce risks, be alert, and report suspicious activity. History has shown that when you think you are safest...is when you are not. There are many examples in recent years where people were not prepared for or expected an attack, but attacks occurred. Global terrorist experts say terrorists are aiming for hotels and other easier-to-hit targets as security measures at military and government facilities continue to improve. As inconvenient as good security measures may be, it is what protects us and sends an attack to another less hardened location. In order to prepare for and improve real world security, the 17th Security Forces Squadron has developed a similar program. The team's objective is to test the community awareness on security surrounding day-to-day operations. These tests will range from observing operations from off base, going into facilities to collect data, and even monitoring conversations at local off base establishments. If you observe any suspicious activity, on or off-base, such as someone eavesdropping, photographing, soliciting official information, please contact security forces at 654-3504. Remember, OPSEC and protection of the installation is everyone's duty.
