Cal Tech took the first possession of the game and drove down the field with ease, taking it inside the red zone. Once inside the red zone the Hawks' defense stiffened and held Cal Tech scoreless when Doran Gilstrap intercepted the pass in the end zone. The Hawk' offense took over but came up short on a 3rd down and had to punt. The Hawks' defense kept Cal Tech scoreless until their third possession when Cal Tech got the ball and took two plays to score a touchdown and PAT. Cal Tech took the lead, 7 to 0. The Hawks and Cal Tech would trade punts the next two possessions and Tech would take the 7 to 0 lead into the half. In the first possession of the second half, the Hawks missed an opportunity to tie the game when they turned the ball over on downs inside the red zone. The Hawks had another opportunity to tie the game when Tim Harris intercepted a Tech pass, but on a fourth and short the Hawks failed to convert and turned the ball over on downs giving Cal Tech a short field to work with. Cal Tech seized the opportunity and on their second play scored a touchdown making it a 13 to 0 score.
