Tim Harris' acrobatic 36-yard catch gave the Goodfellow Hawks varsity flag football team a 1-0 overtime victory over the Smokin' Aces Sunday in San Angelo.

Harris soared to snag a high pass from quarterback Todd Hadley to give the Hawks' the win, which evened Goodfellow's season record at 2-2.

Neither team could score during regulation time, which set up the overtime period. Under the league rules, each team starts from midfield, and is given four chances to gain as much yardage or scores as possible in a single possession. Under the format, the team which outgains the other is given the tie-breaking point and the victory. The Aces picked up 21 yards during their four plays in overtime, but Harris' 36-yard grab on the Hawks' fourth and final try put his team over the top.

The Hawks had several scoring opportunities during regulation, but the Aces' defense kept the Hawks from cashing in.

The Hawks threatened to get on the board on their first possession. Hadley moved the ball down field, converting on a fourth down and four by completing an eight-yard pass to Jamie Burdette. A couple of plays later the Hawks failed to convert a fourth to a goal, but a 15-yard penalty on the Smokin' Aces moved the ball to the red zone. The Hawks moved the ball to the 10-yard line, but Hadley overthrew his receiver in the end zone on fourth down and the Aces took over.

In their second possession the Hawks' again converted on a fourth down when Hadley hit Harris, who ran the ball to the Aces' 19-yard line. Deion Campbell picked up five yards on the ground, and Hadley passed to Mike Thompson to move Goodfellow to the Aces' two-yard line. After an incomplete pass, the Hawks tried to run the ball in for a touchdown, but the Aces' defense stopped the ball carrier on the one-yard line.

After forcing the Aces to punt on their first possession of the second half, the Hawks got the ball on their 21-yard line. Key catches by Harris, Campbell and Moe Dawkins moved the ball once again into the Aces' red zone. However, the Aces' thwarted another score by intercepting Hadley in the end zone.

The Aces' offense tried to take advantage of the miscue but had to turn the ball over on the Hawks' 35 yard-line. With time running out, the Hawks took one more shot at the end zone. Goodfellow move down to the Aces' 19-yard line. Hadley was hurt trying to run on a third down play and had to leave the field. A penalty on the Ace defense gave the Hawks a replay down and Jamal Mikell took the duties of quarterback. After his first pass fell incomplete, Mikell tried to run it in from the two-yard line but was stopped for no gain.

The Hawks' defense, which had been dominant throughout the game, stopped the final Aces' play as regulation time expired. The Aces got the ball first in overtime, and marched the ball to the Hawks 19-yard line in two plays. The Aces went for a score on third down, but the Hawks' Mike Thompson intercepted the ball in the end zone.

The Hawks took over, needing to gain 22 yards or score a touchdown to win the game. Hadley came back in to quarterback the team; however, the Aces' defense was up to the challenge and kept the Hawks' offense to minimal gain on three plays. On fourth down, the Hawks needed to get the 18-yard line to secure a win. Hadley rolled out to his right and just before crossing the line of scrimmage, threw a high pass, which Harris hauled in at the four-yard line and the win.

The Hawks' next game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Sunday in San Angelo.
