After finishing the regular season as the number-one and number-two teams, the 316th Training Squadron Sharks played the 17th Mission Support Group Rottweilers three times in the Intramural Base Championship Basketball Tournament.

The first meeting came in game 7 of the tournament, and was a close game for both teams as they fought for every point to stay in the winners' bracket. At the end, the Rottweilers pulled a mild upset in a 43 to 40 affair, thus sending the Sharks to the losers' bracket.

In the next game, the Sharks met the 315th Training Squadron Sidewinders to determine who would meet the Rottweilers in the Championship Game. The Sharks were on a feeding frenzy and sent the Sidewinders to the deep with a 52 to 43 victory.

The Sharks played their second game of the night, needing a victory over the Rottweilers to catapult the Sharks into a winner take all game. The Shark feeding frenzy carried over from the previous game and decimated the Rottweilers' base championship hopes with a 52 to 39 triumph.

In the final, winner-take-all game, the Sharks had their way against the lost and confused Rottweilers and were on their way to win back to back base championship. At the half-way point the Sharks held an 18-point lead and could smell victory.

In the second period the dogs appeared to rise from the dead. With a stronger defense and good offensive performance, the Rottweilers chipped away at the Sharks and took a seven-point lead late in the game.

The Sharks came back in the final minutes of the game and tied the game on a 3-point shot 50 to 50 with 9 seconds left in the period. The Rottweilers quickly inbounded the ball to Michael Thompson, who took the ball and dribbled down the court.

With a defender on his hip and time running out, Thompson eluded the defender and took a 18-foot shot to beat the buzzer and the Sharks 52 to 50.

The 2009 Goodfellow Intramural Basketball Champions are Moshe Dawkins, Aaron Dawkins, Antwain Gooding, Michael Thompson, Coach Doug Hennen, Leverne Jackson, Jamie Burdette, He Xu and Jamal Mikell.
