San Angelo says "Thank you, Goodfellow!" Published May 22, 2009 By Senior Airman Stephen Musal 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Approximately 2,100 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Department of Defense civilians and their families from Goodfellow Air Force Base were greeted with a delicious picnic lunch and plenty of fun-filled activities at San Angelo's Goodfellow Appreciation Day Picnic, May 16, Armed Forces Day, at the Goodfellow Recreation Camp at Lake Nasworthy. "It was a beautiful day," said Sandra Pomroy. San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, who coordinated the event. "We had a great turnout and everyone really enjoyed putting this on. Everyone seemed very appreciative," she added. More than 100 volunteers from the San Angelo community made the event possible, along with support from many local businesses. The picnic lunch included beef brisket, hot dogs and several side dishes. Besides the good food, several activities contributed to the fun-filled atmosphere. Children could enjoy pony rides, face painting, rock climbing and several bounce houses. Adults could also enjoy the rock climbing, as well as boating, swimming and the beautiful weather. Additionally, several servicemembers started pick-up games of football and volleyball which turned into rousing, if good-natured, competition.
