The last two nights of regular intramural basketball proved to be the deciding factor as to where each of the top six teams would be seeded in yesterday's Base Championship Tournament.

The 17th Communications Squadron B Bats needed two wins to remain in the hunt for play-off berth in the tournament. In the first game, the B Bats met the Navy/Marine team and in a low-scoring affair the Bats got the first much-needed victory.

Next, the Bats would face the 17th Medical Group Cobras, who threw in the towel and gave the Bats an early Christmas present, sending them into the tournament.

With three teams sporting identical 6 and 4 records (17th Mission Support Group Junk Yard Dawgs, 315th Training Squadron Sidewinders and 17 CS B Bats) head-to-head meeting was used to determine which two teams would continue playing.

The Bats held victories over the Sidewinders and Junk Yard Dawgs in the regular season which placed them as the 5th seed, while the Sidewinders held a victory over the Junk Yard Dawgs placing the Sidewinders as the 6th Seed.

With the Army's 28-25 victory over the 315 TRS Rattlers May 18, the remaining two games on Tuesday night pitted the four top teams in the league in determining which team would be seated where.

In the first game between the 316th Training Squadron Sharks and the Rattlers, the Rattlers needed a victory to stay in contention for the number one seed and a bye in the first round of the tournament. The game was a closely-fought affair; when the air cleared the Sharks swam away with a 10 point victory and the number-one seed in the tournament.

The second game was a classic; both the Army and the 17 MSG Rottweilers needed a victory to become the second seed and a first round bye. At the end of regulation time, the teams were tied and needed extra time to determine the outcome.

In overtime, the Army team could not muster a point and the Rottweilers dumped nine points to take a 57 to 48 win and a bye in the first round.

Tune in next week for the results of the fast-paced Base Championship Tournament!
