Goodfellow leadership visits Fort Huachuca Published Oct. 16, 2008 By Maj. Pedro Matos 17th Training Group Detachment 1 commander FORT HUACHUCA, Ariz. -- 17th Training Group Detachment 1 welcomed Goodfellow Air Force Base leadership to historic Fort Huachuca Oct. 7-9. Colonel Richard Ayres, 17th Training Wing commander, Col. Anthony Lombardo, 17th Training Group commander, and Chief Master Sgt, Frederick Ricker, 17 TRW command chief master sergeant visited the fort to receive mission updates and interact with Airmen assigned to the post. During their visit, they met with Fort Huachuca's senior leadership and toured several intelligence facilities, including the Intercept Morse Code School House, Foreign Instrumentation Intelligence course, Human Intelligence-Joint Center of Excellence and the Joint Weapons Intelligence Teams. One of the major highlights of the wing leadership visit consisted of the first-ever Fort Huachuca Airmen's call. Airmen from all over Fort Huachuca gathered at the post theater, where Col. Ayres and Chief Ricker gave an update on changes happening within the Air Force. More than 75 Airmen were also given the opportunity to ask questions concerning those changes. Both Col. Ayres and Chief Ricker thanked the Airmen for their hard work and commitment to the mission. Several meetings and conference calls involving key leaders from the Army Post were conducted, giving decision makers the opportunity to meet each other and discuss the future of the Air Force on Fort Huachuca. As the mission of the Air Force detachment evolves, leadership from both services see an opportunity to succeed in the training environment. The detachment currently supports more than 300 students a year and 55 permanent party members across the installation. The training tempo is expected to increase as these numbers grow by Fiscal Year 2010/2011. Colonel Lombardo, took the opportunity to meet with all the instructors and students assigned to the detachment. He expressed his deepest appreciation to the Airmen for what they do and reiterated the group's commitment to support the students and cadre assigned to the fort. Additionally, he had lunch with all non-prior service Airmen, giving them the opportunity to ask questions in a non-threatening environment. Also, two Det. 1 NCOs had the rare opportunity to take Col. Lombardo on a tour of the installation. Goodfellow leadership also took the opportunity to recognize Det. 1 outstanding performers during their stay.
