Not often do people get a chance to meet, talk to and enjoy a meal with living legends. Col Merrily Madero, 17 Training Wing vice commander, along with a group of Goodfellow Airmen, cadets from the Air Force Academy and two players from the San Angelo Colts, got such a chance earlier this week during a visit to the Big Spring Veterans' Hospital. All attendees spoke to veterans who served in three wars - World War II, Korea and Vietnam - and took the time to enjoy lunch with them.

Some of the history presented to the young men and women was found in the memories of Lyndall Preslar, a former Marine who spent more than three years as a Japanese prisoner of war after the surrender of Corregidor Island.

"I was in the wrong place at the wrong time" Mr. Preslar said, as he gave the attendees a brief look into how it was to be a prisoner of war during World War II.

In addition the many shadow boxes lining the hall of this facility displayed bits of history as well. It was not uncommon to see a Purple Heart, as well as medals recognizing some act of bravery.
