The new school-age facility at Goodfellow Air Force Base officially opened May 29th with a ribbon-cutting with more than 50 children, parents, and school-age facility workers in attendance.

The new facility enables the School-Age Program to consolidate all of its activities and has an added 12 additional spaces. The 2,350-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility includes three large classrooms, a computer study area, staff lounge, reception work area and coordinator's office and can accomodate a maximum of 84 children, ages 5-12.

The new facility provides developmentally appropriate areas with additional environments for expanded outdoor play, a computer area with 10 computers, art, music, photography, Club Tech, Fit Factor, Power Hour, Animal Kingdom, Torch Club (community service), cooking classes, Kidzlit, performing arts, science and class projects. There will be staff areas for training, mentoring and a new warming kitchen with additional storage.

In addition, they offer the added convenience to parents of a collocated complex adjacent to the child development or youth programs.

The services division, civil engineer and contracting squadron personnel collaborated on this 2004 Air Education and Training Command award winning design. The project has taken almost nine years to complete and an estimated $2.5 million in non-appropriated construction funds. The time and efforts of those who were involved have ensured the best environment for the youth of Goodfellow Air Force Base for years to come.
