Base honors graduates Published May 29, 2008 By Senior Airman Stephen Musal 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- As a training base, graduation ceremonies are a common occurrence at Goodfellow. Less common on base are college graduations like the ceremony May 15. Graduates honored at the ceremony received their Community College of the Air Force degrees. Additionally, graduates of Southern Illinois University's Fire Science program as well as graduates of Park University were recognized. Staff Sgt. Damian Davies of the 311th Training Squadron was awarded the Powell Warrior Award at the ceremony. The Powell Warrior Award is a Goodfellow-only award founded by retired Col. Charles Powell and his wife JoAnne, and is awarded to a CCAF graduate from the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps or Navy. Additionally, three Goodfellow CCAF graduates were awarded the Pitsenbarger Award. The Pitsenbarger award was named for Airman 1st Class William Pitsenbarger, an Air Force pararescueman who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his sacrifice and valor during the Vietnam War. Recipients of the Pitsenbarger Award must be Air Force graduates of the CCAF, and must use the $500 award to continue their education. Goodfellow's Pitsenbarger Award winners were Tech. Sgt. Denise Padilla-Rorie of the 17th Training Group, Staff Sgt. Lisa Hunter, of the 312th Training Squadron, and Staff Sgt. Amber Morgan, of the 17th Medical Support Squadron.
