Officials from Keep Texas Beautiful Inc. recently announced the results of the 2007 KTB Awards, and Goodfellow Air Force Base was once again a winner.

The Keep Texas Beautiful Awards are part of an annual awards program designed to recognize the outstanding work of various organizations whose efforts help educate, promote and maintain the environment and beauty of communities in the state of Texas.

Keep Texas Beautiful recognized Goodfellow as the first-place winner in the Government/State Award category for outstanding contributions by a government entity supporting the mission of KTB in their local areas.

Goodfellow was noted for the unmatched involvement of its volunteers, who took part in local community-related projects such as the Great American Cleanup, Elderly and Disabled Citizens trash collection and on-base recycling efforts like those spearheaded by the Goodfellow Environmental Conservation Organization. This marks the second straight year the base has won the award.

"This award is yet another great testament to the dedication and hard work of the men and women of Goodfellow Air Force Base," said Col. Merrily Madero, 17th Training Wing vice commander. "It gives me great pride to be a part of an organization that continually shows how much they care about making a positive difference in their community."

Keep Texas Beautiful is a non-profit educational corporation that offers statewide litter prevention, waste reduction and beautification programs to affiliate communities and participating organizations. Some of the programs include the Great American Cleanup, Don't Mess with Texas Trash-Off and Texas Waterway Cleanup Program.

In addition to participating in KTB programs, affiliates like Keep San Angelo Beautiful organize their own local events and programs based on the specific needs of their community. They recruit volunteers to aid in grassroots efforts that include students, youth groups, garden clubs and service organizations.

The presentation of the 2007 KTB Awards is scheduled to take place June 24-27 at the Omni Mandalay Hotel at Las Colinas in Irving, Texas.
