Goodfellow honors warriors Published April 15, 2008 By Senior Airman Stephen Musal 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Team Goodfellow recognized two of its recently-deployed Airmen at the Pass in Review ceremony March 28. Technical Sergeant Christopher Lyons and Staff Sgt. Chi Yi, both with the 315th Training Squadron, were presented with decorations during the ceremony by Col. Richard Ayres, 17th Training Wing commander. Sergeant Lyons received the Bronze Star for his "outstanding dedication to duty during combat operations in Iraq," according to the citation. The medal was awarded by Army Lt. Gen. Raymond Orierno. Sergeant Yi became the first Goodfellow Airman to be presented with the Air Force Combat Action Medal, which is awarded for serving in a combat capacity and "having been under direct and hostile fire or physically engaging hostile forces with direct and lethal fire." The AFCAM recipient, who also holds the Army and Navy equivalents of the medal, said he was proud the Air Force chose to recognize him, and hoped that the Air Force will continue to recognize other "unsung heroes" in the future. Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Hensley, 315 TRS commander, said he was proud of both of his NCOs. "Sergeant Lyons' and Sergeant Yi's recognitions are most deserving, and are a reflection of their dedication, service and sacrifice for our nation during a time of war while deployed to a combat environment," Lt. Col. Hensley said. "They both performed admirably and heroically, and I consider it an honor to be their squadron commander."
