Hard-working, dedicated, Greene Published April 15, 2008 By Senior Airman Luis Loza Gutierrez 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Air Education and Training Command recently announced the results of the 2007 AETC Military Training Leader Awards and one senior NCO from Goodfellow Air Force Base was chosen as one of best in the major command. Master Sgt. José Greene, the superintendent of military training for the 17th Training Group, was named the 2007 AETC Senior Military Training Leader of the Year. The AETC Military Training Leader Awards are part of an Air Force program designed to recognize the outstanding achievements and accomplishments of a an MTL's performance, including contributions to mission effectiveness, leadership and mentorship in the workplace and professional and career development and improvement. To a lesser degree, nominations also emphasize contributions, participation and activities outside of job duties. During 2007, Master Sgt. Greene was noted for conducting military training standardization for 54 MTLs, which ultimately led to more than 3,000 mission-ready graduates. He also wrote an 18-page AETC instruction supplement that codified new phase rules for technical school students, which helped redefine operational tasks for MTLs. In addition, Master Sgt. Greene was also recognized for his community involvement. Master Sgt. Greene solicited more than 90 volunteers for last year's Operation KIDS, which helped military dependents understand more about deployments. He also helped place more than 200 unaccompanied Airmen, Soldiers and Marines with 63 families during Thanksgiving and Christmas by serving as the base's liaison for the Home for the Holidays program, which has helped strengthen ties with the local community. Master Sgt. Greene's recent award has drawn additional recognition from folks here including Goodfellow Air Force Base's top enlisted service member, Command Chief Master Sgt. Paul Moreau. When asked why he thought Master Sgt. Greene won at AETC, Chief Moreau was excited to comment in his one unique way. "Goodfellow Air Force Base rocks and we rock because we have strong senior NCOs like Master Sgt. Greene." said the chief. The chief went further by strongly encouraging other members of the base's senior leadership to make it a point to make technical school students aware of this recognition. "Our students need to know about the 'high speed-low drag' folks that are charged with their development. They need to know that our Air Force recognizes the dedication and hard work of people like Master Sgt. Greene and that 'Excellence in all we do' is more than a nice set of words on an Air Force poster. It's one of our Air Force core values and something that Airmen like Master Sgt. Greene aspire to live up to day in and day out." Despite all the recent recognition, Master Sgt. Greene remains a modest man with a practical mindset. "I've spent over nine years in the MTL career field because I enjoy helping Airmen. The position I'm in just makes it easier for me to help them on a different level," said the 19-year veteran from Old Fort, N.C. Master Sgt. Greene, an NCO Academy distinguished graduate, has been the recipient of other notable awards and recognitions such as the John Levitow Award at Airman Leadership School as well as numerous unit and group-level awards. Master Sgt. Greene will now compete in the same category at the Air Force level.
