Nine Goodfellow members, one unit win AETC Intel awards Published March 7, 2008 By Senior Airman Luis Loza Gutierrez 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- "Please join me in congratulating our training group superstars." Those were the excited and proud words of Col. Richard Ayres, 17th Training Wing commander, who let it be known that nine members and one unit from Goodfellow Air Force Base had been selected to receive awards in various categories in the 2007 Air Education and Training Command Military Intelligence Awards. The AETC Military Intelligence Awards are part of an Air Force program designed to recognize the outstanding achievements and accomplishments of both civilian and military personnel in the military intelligence career fields at an Air Force major-command level. Both of the military intelligence squadrons on Goodfellow AFB (315th and 316th) had AETC-level winners. Two of the nine Team Goodfellow members selected for AETC individual awards are members of the 316th. Those members and the category they won are: - Outstanding Active Duty intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year Level II: Master Sgt. Brian Barnett - Outstanding ISR Civilian Contributor of the Year: YC-02 Susan Williams The remaining seven individual awards went to members from the 315th Training Squadron. Those members and the category they won are: - Major General John S. Patton Outstanding Active Duty ISR Officer of the Year Level II: 1st Lt. Christopher Sharp - Outstanding Active Duty ISR Noncommissioned Officer of the Year Level II: Staff Sgt. Michael Morrow - Outstanding ISR Senior-Level Civilian of the Year (GS-11 through GS-13) Level II GG-11: Edward Rauss - Outstanding Air Reserve Component ISR Noncommissioned Officer of the Year Level II: Tech. Sgt. Gilbert Gonzalez - Outstanding Officer ISR Contributor of the Year: 1st Lt. Shaun Zabel - Outstanding Enlisted ISR Contributor of the Year: Staff Sgt. Omar Portillo - Outstanding Officer ISR Instructor of the Year: Capt. Jeffery Johnston Not all the awards were individual honors as the 315th Training Squadron was named the 2007 AETC Outstanding Intelligence Unit of the Year. Military intelligence units such as intelligence reconnaissance and surveillance divisions, intelligence operations squadrons and intelligence squadrons all compete for this award. "This recognition is a reflection of all the outstanding work of the men and women of the 315th Training Squadron. I am very proud to be a part of such a talented and professional group of people, and I consider it an honor that the Air Force has allowed me to serve as their squadron commander." said Lt. Col. Thomas Hensley. The 315th Training Squadron trains more than 2,200 Air Force officer, enlisted, and Marine Corps enlisted students in collection, analysis, and application of all-source intelligence to plan and execute combat operations. The 315 TRS also trains foreign officers in intelligence applications and manages an annual budget and training systems in excess of $18 million. The 315th Rattlers and the rest of the AETC winners will move on to compete in their respective categories at the Air Force level against other major command winners.
