Twists and turns with Tops in Blue Published March 7, 2008 By Senior Airman Luis Loza Gutierrez 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Air Force's Tops in Blue performed Feb. 24 at the San Angelo City Auditorium. The musical group, made up of 28 Airmen from all walks of life and career fields in the Air Force, performed in front of an audience of more than 1,200 servicemembers and civilians. Air Force ROTC cadets from AFROTC Detachment 847 at Angelo State University passed out programs and commemorative Air Force 60th Anniversary buttons to guests as they entered the auditorium. Colonel Richard Ayres, 17th Training Wing commander, was the evening's host, and greeted everyone in attendance. This year's tour theme was "The Fly-By," which consisted of a musical tribute to 60 years of proud Air Force history. The musical tribute included a video presentation narrated by Golden Globe-nominated actor, writer, producer and director, Craig T. Nelson. The tribute also included popular country, jazz, swing, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll songs. Some of the songs performed by the talented members were "The Twist," by Chubby Checker, and "My Girl," by the legendary Motown singing group, The Temptations. Performers also danced with and serenaded several audience members during the performance. Tops in Blue cast members travel to more than 100 locations worldwide presenting an average of 120 performances a year, and are not only responsible for performing, but the set up and break down of the set and all equipment used in the performance.
