Goodfellow Hawks go 2-0 Published Feb. 26, 2008 By Douglas Hennen Goodfellow Hawks head coach DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Fresh off of two victories against Brooks Air Force Base just after the New Year, the Hawks traveled to Dyess Air Force Base hoping to stay undefeated for 2008. The game on Feb. 9 was quite an offensive display with the Hawks scoring 56 points in the first half and leading 56-44. Dyess made a run in the second half and rattled the Hawks with a full court press. The lead was down to just four points before the Hawks were able to make a run of their own and push the lead back to double digits. The final score was 99-87 with the Hawks having five players score in double figures. High scorers were Justin Pendry - 19, Joseph Baldwin - 17, Michael Thompson - 16, Derrick Harris - 9, and Sharad White - 9. The game versus Dyess was much different. The Hawks came out very cold on the offensive end of the floor and had only managed 13 points in the first 14 minutes of the first half. Their defense kept them in the game and the Hawks managed to close the half on a 13 to 4 run but still trailed 44-26 at the half. Realizing the offense was cold; they decided to focus on the defensive end coming out in the second half. The defensive intensity picked up and translated into some easy offense which got the team rolling. The Hawks held the Dyess team to 16 second half points and they won the game 71-60. The Sunday game was a total team effort and showed that the Hawks are capable of winning both the fast paced game as well as the slow "grind it out" game. High scorers were Joseph Baldwin - 21, Michael Thompson - 16, Justin Pendry - 12, Derrick Harris - 12, and Sharad White - 9. The season goes through the end of March and the Hawks are losing a couple of key players. If anyone is interested in playing the remainder of the season please contact the gym staff at 654-3242.
