John Barton 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 17th Training Wing hosted the 2007 Christmas Tree Lighting, Dec. 6 by the Goodfellow Air Force Base chapel. The lighting of the base Christmas tree is an annual event. More than 130 people gathered with candles in hand to watch the colorful lights illuminate the sky. The event featured caroling, a tree and chapel lighting and a reception. "Folks seemed to have a wonderful time, nurturing their bodies and souls," said Chaplain (Lt. Col.) James Ludwikowski, the 17th Training Wing chaplain. "We certainly started the Christmas Season out right." There are approximately 150 lights on the 22-foot-tall pine tree. The evergreen tree will remain lit until Jan. 14. A nativity set is located near the tree. Guests may notice that the baby Jesus figurine is not present. It will be placed in the manger Christmas day. The tree can be clearly seen by motorists driving near the intersection of Ft. Griffin Avenue and Valiant Street or from the west side of the Base Exchange parking lot.
