High fives for the 4-time GFL Champions Published Nov. 1, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Luis Loza Gutierrez Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 17th Mission Support Group Junk Yard Dogs won their third straight Goodfellow Flag Football League Champion after defeating the Marine Corps Leathernecks 24 to 0, Sept. 27 at the base football field next to the Mathis Fitness Center. "The 2007 season was dominated once again by the MSG Junk Yard Dogs. They displayed excellence on the gridiron by going undefeated throughout the entire season," said Michelle Ammon, Mathis Fitness Center sports director. The victory marks the third consecutive time the Junk Yard Dogs have won the GFL title. Bringing in the total of four championships in five years (2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007). "We had to give props to the Marines, they won two close games on the same night for the right to play us for the championship," said Bryan Samuel, JYD defensive lineman. "They played when other teams would have just forfeited," Samuel added. "They gave us a good game despite the score, but just like the way we had done all season, we found a way to win," said Alejandro Aguilar, JYD rookie defensive lineman. And find a way to win they did indeed. The Junk Yard Dogs finished this season with a 13-0 record. They amassed 355 points, an average of more than 27 points per game. Their opponents managed to just score a total of 59 points against them. Reflecting upon the season, JYD head coach/linebacker, Bo Westbrooks (AKA: Big Bo), commented about this year's overall team performance in his own unique style. "This was a another great season for the Junk Yard Dogs, all the other teams know the Dogs always show up to play. All I have to say is-If you can't keep up with the big dogs, then just stay on the porch." This year's team was once again a diverse one. More than a dozen players represented various organizations on base, which included members from the 17th Services Division, 17th Mission Support Squadron and the Goodfellow Commissary and Base Exchange. The 17th Comptroller Squadron along with four offices under the 17th Training Wing Staff were also represented on the team. The offices represented were from public affairs, protocol and the executive support staff. Final note from Coach Bo, "We'll be back next season, ready to play, cause you know a dog has to guard his bones."
